Srinagar: National anti-terrorism day was observed in Jammu and Kashmir to mark the death anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber at an election rally in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.

To mark the day, government officials pledged to condemn terrorism and violence. Adhering to Covid-19 protocols, a function was also held at the District Police Lines in Srinagar.

Speaking to media persons, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar said, "We are deeply concerned about the joining of local youth in the militant ranks. Much has been done, but more needs to be done. "

"Our goal is not just to kill a militant but to protect the people too. Today, we pledge to condemn all forms of violence, terrorism and related activities," he added.
