Srinagar: An Ikhwan-turned-policeman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday evening in South Kashmir's Kulgam district, officials said.
Ikhwan was a pro-government militia active in Jammu and Kashmir during the 90s.
"Abdul Rashid Dar (58) was fired upon by unidentified gunmen from a close range outside his residence in Kulgam's Mir Bazaar area, " a senior police official said, adding, " Dar had received bullets on chest and abdomen."

He further said, "Dar succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated to GMC Anantnag hospital. Doctors declared him brought dead. We have registered the case in this regard."
According to police, Dar was posted in Srinagar and had come home for meeting his family members.
Meanwhile, security forces have sealed the area and massive search operation has been launched to nab the assailants.
