Mehbooba pooh-poohs govt's claims of 'normalcy' after she's put under house arrest

PDP chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday claimed that she has been "put under house arrest" again and added that this exposed the fake claims of normalcy in the state by the government of India.

"GOI expresses concern for the rights of Afghan people but wilfully denies the same to Kashmiris. I've been placed under house arrest today because according to admin the situation is far from normal in Kashmir. This exposes their fake claims of normalcy,” Mufti tweeted.

The security scenario in the state especially in the post-Taliban takeover of Afghanistan has slipped few notches down with the Army repeatedly cautioning there have been infiltration bids in the recent past and that there is a potential risk to high profile leaders in the Valley.

The Army warned the leaders to be careful and stay away from public appearances.

It may be recalled that last Friday the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. "Last night, there was an infiltration attempt along the LoC in Poonch. The infiltration bid has been foiled by effective fire by own troops on own side of the LoC," a defence spokesperson said.

Security forces are now carrying out a massive search operation in the Gulpur sector of Poonch district after an infiltration attempt was foiled by the Army around midnight.
