Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar claimed that four militants are still active in Srinagar. "There are still four militants active in the Srinagar city. We are tracking them. They will either be arrested or killed in encounters soon," Kumar said while speaking on the sidelines of a sports event in Srinagar on Wednesday.
He further said, "police will organise more sports activities in the Valley. Sports activities help develop the personality of youth and will prevent them from choosing the wrong path."
The statement of IG comes in the wake of the rise in militancy-related incidents in and around Srinagar city. On Sunday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Officer was killed in a suspected militant attack in Srinagar’s downtown area. The deceased police officer has been identified as Arshid Ahmad Meer, who was a PSI (probationary sub-inspector) with J&K Police.
On Tuesday, unidentified militants hurled a grenade towards the JK Police Special Operation Group (SOG) camp at Budgam's Chadoora, just 15 km from Srinagar city. The attack comes four days after a civilian and paramilitary personnel sustained minor injuries after unidentified militants lobbed a grenade on a security forces party at Srinagar's Chanapora area on September 10.
