Two terrorists killed in encounter

The two terrorists who were trapped, have been killed in the encounter with security forces in Srinagar. The dead bodies of LeT's Saifullah, a Pakistan resident, and that of another local terrorist, have been recovered. Meanwhile, a search operation is underway. The killed local terrorist has not yet been identified.

Two terrorists trapped, encounter underway

Speaking to reporters, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar informed that a Pakistani terrorist affiliated with the LeT, who was earlier involved in attacks on the CRPF, is currently trapped.  

"One Pakistani terrorist named Saifullah and one local terrorist affiliated with LeT is trapped, the operation is underway. Saifullah was involved in an attack on CRPF personnel in September, and the recent attack on CRPF in Nowgam in which 2 personnel lost their lives," the IGP said.

Encounter breaks out between security forces, militants in Srinagar

The encounter broke out in Old Barzulla area of the city

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir):An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in Srinagar on Monday.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Old Barzulla area of the city here in the early hours of Monday after receiving specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

Around 7:45 AM, when searches were underway, the militants opened on the forces, he said. The forces retaliated and an encounter ensued, he added.

After the initial contact, there was a lull for half an hour and then the firing resumed, the official said.

According to reports quoting sources, the security forces are expecting two militants to be trapped - one foreign and the other a local.
