Srinagar:President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, is on a four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territory. On Monday, he was scheduled to attend the 22nd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas in the Drass area of Ladakh, but his plane could not take off from Srinagar airport due to bad weather. This is the second time that the President could not participate in the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations. In 2019, his tour got cancelled due to bad weather. In 2020, the ceremony was simple because of the Covid-19 situation.

"In wake of the cancellation of Drass visit, the President attended the Kargil Vijay Diwas function at the Army's High Altitude Warfare School in Gulmarg as a chief guest, where he paid tribute to the soldiers killed during the Kargil war," a senior officer in J&K administration told ETV Bharat. He further said that the President was accompanied by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha. On the occasion, General Officer Commanding Baramulla Division, Varendra Vats briefed the President about the district.
