Amid tight security, Independence Day festivities held in JK

Amid tight security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir, the 75th Independence Day was celebrated across the Union Territory. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the major function in Srinagar's Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium where he hoisted the tricolour and accepted the guard of honour. Tight security arrangements were put in place around the venue in Srinagar and all roads leading to it were sealed.

Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir): Amid tight security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir, the 75th Independence Day was celebrated across the Union Territory. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over the major function in Srinagar's Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium where he hoisted the tricolour and accepted the guard of honour. Tight security arrangements were put in place around the venue and all roads leading to it were sealed.

Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in large numbers around the main venue in and in other district headquarters of the Union Territory. District Development Council chairpersons hoisted the tricolour at district headquarters. The celebrations were held at all major government offices in Jammu and Kashmir and in all private and government schools.

This is for the first time that all government offices and schools were directed to hold the celebrations. Teachers and students at the schools participated in the functions and hoisted the flag. Police and security forces used drone cameras to keep surveillance around the venues. The internet services were not shut down and no restrictions were placed anywhere by the police.

However, shops and markets in Srinagar and other towns of the valley were shut while public transport was off the roads though there was no hartal call given by any separatist group on the day.
