Shimla:Yellow alert was issued by the Meteorological Department in several districts of Himachal Pradesh where it snowed heavily in higher regions on Wednesday and Thursday, disrupting public life.
Due to continuous snowfall in the higher regions, the vehicular movement stopped on two national highways and 227 roads in the state.
According to the State Disaster Management Authority, 101 roads in Lahaul-Spiti, 61 in Chamba, 28 in Shimla, 22 in Kullu and 15 in Kinnaur remained closed due to snowfall. Apart from the Leh-Manali highway, traffic on National Highway 5 in Narkanda was also blocked due to which the buses of the Transport Corporation were diverted.

Drinking water schemes and power transformers have also been affected in the upper areas of the state which is in the grip of cold wave. The lower areas of Himachal have also recorded a drop in temperature.
The work of removing snow from the road is being done by the administration, but at some places, it is proving to be a cumbersome task.
Meteorological director Manmohan Singh said that due to the western disturbance, there has been snowfall in the higher reaches of the state and rain in the plains. As for now, the weather will remain clear in Himachal and there is no possibility of rain and snowfall till December 2.
