Dharamshala: Central Tibet Administration is currently engaged in the work of voter registration in Dharamshala.

Voter registration will be starting from September 1 for the election of the exiled Tibetan parliament and the Kashag government. This campaign will be carried out in countries around the world where Tibetans live.

All these exercises are being done for next year's elections.

The term of the current exiled Tibetan government is coming to an end in May 2021.

The exile Tibetan parliament elects 45 MPs and these include 40 MPs from India including Nepal and Bhutan, while 2 from the USA, 2 from Europe and South Africa and 1 from Australia.

They are elected by the Tibetan community living around the world. For this, the voter registration program will start from September 1 and will run till October.

The Chief Election Commissioner of the Central Tibetan Administration, Wangdu Tshering, said that one and a half million Tibetan people live in about 40 countries of the world.

In 2016 elections, around 90 thousand Tibetans had registered and about 60 thousand Tibetans used their right to vote.

Not every Tibetan can vote in this election. To participate in the election of the exiled Tibetan parliament, it is necessary to have a green book, which is a kind of identity card given by the central Tibetan government.

Green book holders also give donations to this exiled Tibetan government and Tibetans can register their names in this green book when they are 6 years old, but the right to vote is granted only after registration when they are 18 years of age.

This time, from posters to animation films, everything is ready for the campaign, but the whole world is struggling with the coronavirus crisis these days and the voter registration campaign of the Central Tibetan Administration is also not untouched by this.

Therefore, social media is support for everyone, from awareness to publicity to even voter registration.

This election of the exiled Tibetan government is a unique election in itself because these people keep the flame of democracy away from their land and hold these elections.

They have their own Parliament to the Constitution and due to some changes in the Constitution these days, voter registration campaign is being started afresh.

Tibetan social activist Chhela Chhanwa said that the people of the Tibetan community spread all over the world, from the demand for independence of Tibet to their opinions on human rights and all the issues around the world.

There is a lot of excitement in the Tibetan community about the elections to be held next year and voter registration before that.

It may be 9 months to form the new Tibetan government-in-exile, but preparations continue in full swing.

From the Election Commission to the leaders preparing to contest the election, they are ready to campaign, but according to the Tibetan constitution, there is a provision for suspension for 8 years for wrong publicity or commenting on a particular person.

Overall, to keep the flame of democracy going, every 5 years elections are held for the exiled government of Tibet.
