Himachal's indigenous cow breed 'Gauri' being developed

As per the instructions of the government, Animal Husbandry Department of Sirmaur District in Himachal Pradesh has planned to develop Himachal's breed of cow named 'Gauri'. The Centre and the state governments are constantly trying to promote cow culture in the state.

Nahan (Himachal Pradesh): Animal Husbandry Department of Sirmaur District in Himachal Pradesh has planned to develop Himachal's breed of cow as per the instructions of the government.

It is to be noted that the state will soon get a local cow breed whose name is Gauri. The Centre and the state governments are constantly trying to promote cow culture in the state.

Dr Niru Shabnam, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry of Sirmaur said that a lot of work has been done in this direction. Soon, the state will get its cow, Gauri. She informed that the cow culturing center, Bagthan was established in the year 1967.

"At present we have total 24 animals here including 13 cows and 7 oxen. Here, people are also given information about milk production. Along with this, other awareness camps are also in place," she said.

She further said that currently, a comprehensive working plan is going on for Himachal's own cow Gauri, which is being developed here keeping in mind the geographical conditions of this area.
