Now the world will eat garlic from Himachal, not China

Despite producing 80 per cent of the world's total garlic, China has lost its market to the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the closure of markets in China, farmers from other countries are eyeing Himachal Pradesh's market, as the state has more than 50,000 metric tons of garlic crop.

Solan (Himachal Pradesh): In the month of May-June, garlic is cultivated in Himachal. Around 80 per cent of the garlic production in the world is cultivated in China, but due to the spread of coronavirus, China has lost contact with other countries. Himachal has more than 50,000 metric tons of garlic crop. Due to the closure of China's market, farmers from other countries including the Indian farmers are eyeing Himachal's markets. Due to good rains, this time the yield of garlic has been good and now farmers have started sending garlic to the markets.

There has been a bumper yield of garlic in the State such as in Sirmaur and other districts. Farmers hope that they will get good prices for garlic cultivation this time. They have also appealed to the State government to get good prices for the garlic crop.

Garlic has started arriving in the vegetable market at Solan, in three days the bumper crop has reached Mandi. Farmers are getting between 40 rupees to 60 rupees per kg of garlic. However, this price is expected to increase in the coming days. Vegetable marketers say that this time the trade of garlic may increase, due to the closure of supply from China, Nepal and Bangladesh have started contacting the garlic markets of Solan.

This time the garlic crop has been good and in the coming time, farmers would be able to see its benefits. The agents say that if the markets of South Asia open, then the demand for Himachal's garlic may increase in the market and there may be a possibility of opening the markets in the next three or four days. Himachal may be able to take advantage of the shutdown in China this time. This season, the vegetable markets of Nepal and Bangladesh are focused on Himachal. It will be interesting to see whether the garlic of Himachal is sold at the price of silver or the cultivation of garlic will witness the orona eclipse.
