Shimla: In the newly constituted National Medical Commission to regulate medical education in the country, the doctors of Devbhoomi Himachal are in a significant representation. From Friday 25 September, the Medical Council of India, or MCI, has been replaced by the National Medical Commission. Last year, the National Medical Commission Bill was passed by both houses of parliament. The National Medical Commission i.e. NMC will prepare all policies related to medical education and medicine in the country.
Doctors who belong to Himachal Pradesh have considerable representation in this commission. In the commission, Dr Mahesh Verma, a renowned name in Dental Medicine has been included, others include Prof. Dr Surendra Kashyap of Himachal, Prof. Dr Raj Bahadur, Prof. Dr Jagat Ram and Prof. Dr Randeep Guleria. Not only this, Prof. Dr Vinod Paul, member (health) of Niti Aayog, who has announced the members of the commission, is also from Himachal.
Dr Vinod Paul belongs to district Kangra. Dr Surendra Kashyap is a resident of Bhalavag, a small village in Shimla district. Dr Jagtram is from Sirmour district and Dr Rajbahadur is from Una district. Dr Mahesh Verma hails from Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. They have been included as members of the National Medical Commission.
