Paonta Sahib/Ronhat: Police in Himachal Pradesh have solved a case in which a newborn was found abandoned in a heap of cow dung and grass in Ronhat village in Sirmaur. The mother of the abandoned child, a Class XII student was tracked down on Wednesday and sent for medical examination.

According to the statement given by the girl, she was raped by her brother-in-law which resulted in her pregnancy. Fearing social rejection, the girl threw the baby into a pit filled with cow dung and covered it with a boulder.

The baby's cries caught the attention of a man who found the newborn covered with blood. The infant was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors at Nahan Medical College said the baby's condition is stable. After discharge, the newborn would be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee in Sirmaur district, sources said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police in Paonta Sahib, Bir Bahadur, confirmed that a case has been registered against the minor girl and her brother-in-law.
