Himachal farmer grows organic cabbage weighing 17.2 Kg

In Lahaul Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, a farmer has grown a cabbage weighing 17.2 kg in his field. Everyone is surprised to see the size of the cabbage. It is generally seen that the cabbage flower weighs up to two or five kilos. But a cabbage of 17.2 kg is being seen as a wonder of nature.

Lahaul Spiti (Himachal Pradesh): Raling, a village in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul Spiti, has become the talk of the town overnight. In social media post, a farmer named Sunil Kumar of the same village has grown a cabbage weighing 17.2 kilograms and picture of which has gone viral on social media.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Sunil said, "I was experimenting with organic farming and this huge cabbage, weighing 17.2 kg is the result of my labour. The news of a 17 kg cabbage from my experiment has also surprised the scientists of the Agricultural University."

"My family focuses on organic farming from the beginning. Usually, the weight of the cabbage is somewhere around two kg, but I have grown a cabbage weighing 17.2 kg this year. If farmers are interested in getting more information about new technology involved in farming and new research related to agriculture, then they can contact me," Said Sunil said.

Notably, a cabbage normally weights from 2 kilograms to 5 kilograms, however as the farmer has grown the cabbage by using traditional methods the outcome was promising.

Locals of this village hailed the organic farming practices in the Himachal region and urged the government to promote to support organic farming in the country.

Significantly, potatoes and peas grown in Lahaul Spiti are famous all over the world. These cash crops are cultivated on a large scale here and Lahaul's economy is dependent on these two crops. Apart from this, apples are also produced in Lahaul.
