Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Nardev Singh, a chemistry lecturer from Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district, was among the 47 recipients of the National Teachers Awards, which were presented by President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday.
Singh, who is currently a chemistry lecturer at GSSS Biar, had started teaching as a profession in 1998.
Over the years, Singh established himself as an extremely dedicated teacher, who would even sacrifice his vacation time in order to provide extra help to students.
"I always feel I have to give more and more to the students. Hence, I dedicate around 70-80 per cent of my vacation time to provide extra classes to students free of cost," Singh said.
Singh has also helped several poor children by bearing their educational expenses out of his own pocket. During his tenure at Telka Senior Secondary School in Chamba, he had opened a children's school, where 15 to 20 children were adopted and provided education.
Apart from this, Singh had also provided shelter to 17 children in his own house in 2018, in order to provide them with extra help.
Singh's students love his friendly way of teaching and the unique practices he employs to make them understand complex chemistry concepts.
