Solan (Himachal Pradesh):Utilising their free time in the lockdown, a father-son duo here revived a 30-year-old stepwell that was buried under the soil.
Kamlesh and his son Shubham of Sukhi Johri, who runs a small shop made such good use of the free time when the shop and schools are closed during the lockdown.
The stepwell was in a state of neglect for over decades and was being used as a garbage dump. The father-son duo took it upon themselves to clean the well and rejuvenate it.
Shubham asked his father if they could work on the buried stepwell. After that, following social distancing norms, they removed the soil and stones lying on the stepwell.
After cleaning the stepwell they filled it with clean drinking water. The village pradhan has also praised their efforts. Inspired by this, now other villagers are also engaged in repairing natural sources near their homes.
Notably, there are many such sources of water in the mountainous region, and in the summer season, there is a shortage of water in many places. In such a situation, this is the right time when we can prepare to deal with summer. The problem of shortage of drinking water will now be less in the area.
Shubham said that the drinking water shortage faced during the summer season will not trouble those families living in the surrounding areas of the stepwell.
