Thief returns stolen COVID-19 vaccines, leaves apology note

A thief in Haryana's Jind district had stolen the entire stock of COVID-19 vaccine from a government hospital storehouse. However, coming to know that the stolen vials contained the COVID vaccine, he left it at a roadside tea stall with an apology for the act.

Jind: Hours after 1,710 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were stolen from a government hospital in Haryana's Jind, the thief reportedly returned the stolen consignment at a tea stall outside Jind Civil Lines Police Station on Thursday with a "sorry" message.

The apology note from the packet read, "Sorry... I did not know it was Coronavirus vaccine inside."

The CCTV footage from the area of the tea stall was being screened to ascertain the identity of the burglar, police said.

The police said that a case has been registered against unknown people under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The police said that the thief may have picked up the vaccine packet thinking it to be Remdesivir injections.

Haryana on Wednesday recorded the biggest daily jump of 9,623 COVID cases and 45 fatalities that pushed the state's infection tally to 3,81,247 and the death toll to 3,528, a health department bulletin said.

Jind in particular reported 344 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.
