SIT formed in Haryana's student murder case; accused sent to police custody

The murder of a 21-year-old woman who was shot dead outside her college in Ballabgarh in Haryana's Faridabad sparked enormous outrage as the family took to the streets to protest against the police and accused.

Faridabad: A ten-member Special Task Force has been formed after a woman was allegedly shot dead by a man in Ballabgarh on Monday when the victim went to college to appear for her examination. The two accused involved in the incident has been arrested. The accused has been identified as Touseef, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana while other accused Rehan, a resident of Nuh, sent to the police custody for two days.

Faridabad Police Commissioner OP Singh has informed that the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch and two main accused involved in the case has been arrested so far.

While speaking to ETV Bharat, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that the accused has been arrested within 24 hours of the incident. He also assured the family members of providing adequate security to avert any Uttar Pradesh's Unnao like incident where the rape victim's family had to suffer a lot.

Meanwhile, the family members of the girl who was shot dead staged a protest outside their colony demanding killers to be hanged and transfer of the case to a fast track court to get speedy justice.

A complaint against the accused had been lodged by the victim’s family a few months ago for harassment and molestation but a compromise had been reached.

Family members said that the police had been waiting for their daughter to die as no action was taken by the police earlier.

However, reacting to the family allegations, Vij has clarified that the victim's family had withdrawn the case and filed an affidavit for the same.

The accused, who arrived at the spot in a vehicle, tried to pull the woman inside, in a possible bid to abduct her, but she resisted after which one of the accused shot her. She was taken to a hospital but succumbed to injuries.

The ‘rejection of friendship’ could be a motive behind the crime. The whole incident which was captured in the CCTV installed in the area went viral on several social media platform on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Taufiq, a resident of Nuh, Haryana. The search is on for the other accused, police said.
