Fatehabad (Haryana):The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which provides a path to Indian citizenship for persons belonging to religious minority groups persecuted in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, was passed by Parliament on Wednesday.
In the wake of this, Pakistani migrants settled at Ratia area in Haryana's Fatehabad district rejoiced and thanked the government by distributing sweets.
Pakistani migrant Divaya Ram speaking to ETV Bharat One such migrant, Divaya Ram, former Member of Parliament (MP) of Pakistan, distributed sweets and told the stories of atrocities meted out to him in Pakistan.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Ram said that he was elected as Member of Parliament during the reign of Benazir Bhutto and remained an MP for 90 days.

"I was an MP for 90 days but was persecuted for not being a Muslim. I was forced to accept Islam due to which I had to resign," said Ram adding that even the top court of Pakistan asked him and his family to accept Islam.
He further said that ill-treatment done by his country made him to migrant to India in the year 2000 and since then he has been living here.
"Along with my family, I came to India in 2000. Everyone supported us here. The Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organizations helped us a lot. I make my living by selling peanuts in winter and ice cream in summer," said Ram.
It is to be noted that Divaya Ram is very happy and celebrating the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Parliament. This has given him and his family a hope for citizenship of India.
"I along with my colleagues burnt the Pakistani documents today and it is like a new birth for me," added Ram.
