Kurukshetra's Tamal tree: Witness to Radha's love for Krishna

The Tamal tree in Kurukshetra's Radha-Krishna Milan temple was a witness to the divine couple's eternal love. As per folklore, Radha used to find a glimpse of Krishna in the tree and embraced it when he was not around.

Krishna's love and connection to Mathura and Vrindavan are well-known among all men of faith. But his Leelas from Kurukshetra are the lesser-known tales of his life.

As per folklore, a Tamal tree situated in Kurkshetra's Radha Krishna Milan temple was a witness to Radha Krishna's epic romance back in time.

Radha used to embrace the tree in Krishna's absence. In the dark, she used to find a glimpse of Krishna in the tree.

Apart from the one in Kurukshetra's Radha Krishna Milan temple, the Tamal tree is only found in Vrindavan's Nidhivan forest.

The twigs and branches of a Tamal tree seem to intertwine on top of each other, symbolic to the intense connection between Radha and Krishna.

As per Srimad Bhagavad Purana, when Lord Krishna and his elder brother Balrama were leaving Gokul for slaying demon Kamsa, his mother Yashoda, father Nanda, his beloved Radha were deeply saddened.

Krishna had then promised to meet them soon.

Later on the day of Somvati Amavasya, that was marked by a complete solar eclipse, he met his parents, Radha and gopis at the bank of Brahmasarovar river in Kurukshetra.
