Kaithal:Congress leader and sitting MLA from Kaithal, Randeep Surjewala, spoke to ETV Bharat on Haryana elections and fortunes of the Congress party. He also hit out at Khattar-led government on the unemployment rate, misgovernance and polarisation along communal lines.
Edited excerpts of his interview:
'Haryana has made up its mind to reject BJP'
'Haryana has made up its mind to reject BJP' Launching a scathing attack at the incumbent Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in the state, Surjewala said that the 2.5 crore people of Haryana have made up their mind to reject the Khattar government's misrule and cruelty.
Escalating his critique of the BJP government, Surjewala claimed that unemployment in Haryana has peaked to 29 per cent, which is the highest in the world. He went on to say that the economy was in bad shape, with most of the industries suffering.
"Factories are on the threshold of shutting down. There is farm distress. The Dalit community is suffering. Khattar has turned Haryana into 'apradh bhoomi' (land of crime), with so murders and rapes being reported on a daily basis," he said.
'BJP has delivered zero in terms of governance'
'BJP has delivered zero in terms of governance' Commenting on the policies including Article 370 and NRC of the BJP government, Surjewala said that the Khattar-led government is trying to distract people from its poor governance in the state.
"BJP talks about Pakistan, NRC in Assam, Kashmir issue during their state campaign. The election is happening in Haryana. They should discuss issues related to the state," he said.
'Congress campaign is gaining momentum and party will come to power'
'Congress campaign is gaining momentum and party will come to power' Speaking about the prospects of Congress, Surjewala expressed confidence in the fact that Congress is growing and gaining momentum ahead of the assembly elections.
"BJP is in a panic state. Their approval ratings are falling," he said.
"Congress will come to power with majority and BJP 's slogan of 75-paar will come true as in many ways a whole lot of things are 75-paar including petrol, pulses and dollar," he said, mocking the winning target of 75+ seats set by the BJP.
