Ahmedabad: Migrant workers on Tuesday served a legal notice to IIM-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) director, Professor Errol D'Souza, for non-payment of wages during lockdown period and not permitting them to go home since March 28, as they were engaged in construction of a new building at the campus.
This came a day after, 300 migrants pelted stones at public and police officials at a busy road, outside the new campus of IIM-A, demanding to allow them to go back to their native places in the wake of lockdown.
Migrant workers advocate Anand Yagnik said, "The legal notice has been issued to IIM-A director under Inter-State Migrant Workmen Act, 1979, seeking clarification on the issue of workers' wages and preventing them from going home. If the matter is not resolved then we will approach high court."
