Surat (Gujarat): Even as the coronavirus-infected patients across the country have been desperately waiting for their dose of Remdesivir, a key anti-viral drug in the fight against COVID-19, a netizen decided to have some fun at their cost.
The prankster posted on a popular online selling platform that Remdesivir vials were available at Dindoli Surat’s Ambika Park and Ambanagar for Rs 1,200. The person had also mentioned a phone number to contact for the medicine.

Remdesivir is not available in the open market and even state governments are highly dependent on the Centre for the medicine. According to Gujarat's Health and Family Welfare Department, as many as 8,920 news cases were registered in the state on Friday. Several patients in the state have been desperately waiting for their dose of Remdesivir.
As soon as this post grabbed the attention of the people in Surat, family members of scores of COVID patients in the city began frantically calling and texting the number, requesting a vial. However, none of their calls or texts was entertained. Only later did the people realise that they were subjected to a dirty prank. They have demanded that the police nab the prankster.

Yuvaraj Gohil, ACP at the technical cell, Surat Police told ETV Bharat that the police had not received a written complaint yet. Terming this case as a serious matter, Gohil said the police will try to bring the prankster to book.
