Anand: With more and more people now having to rely on online purchases during the Covid-19 lockdown, fraudsters are lurking the internet looking for soft targets, mainly new netizens.
In a major fraud reported within the city limits during the lockdown, a Vidyanagar in Anand district native, Bhavikaben lost around Rs 17,500 through RTGS while purchasing a 'Syska toy' through an online delivery website. The Vidyanagar police registered a case in this regard and a probe is on.
"After I saw an advertisement on Facebook on May 26-27 about a ‘syska toy’ company, I thought of placing an order for a battery-operated car for my child. I called the number given on the marketing page and asked for the photographs of the toy car and expressed interest in buying one of the cars shown in the photograph. I transferred Rs 17,500 through RTGS in the account of syska car toy," she said.
When there was no response for many days after depositing the amount, Bhavikaben contacted the number given on the advertisement page. She was reassured by the person who answered the call that the car would be delivered soon.
