Ahmedabad: Initially cybercrime was under the crime branch of Ahmedabad police but as there was an increase in the number of cybercrimes, a separate Cyber cell was created for tackling cases related to it.

The cybercrime police station came into being in Ahmedabad in 2018 to deal exclusively with incidents of digital crimes.

In all, 256 cases were registered by the cybercrime police station in the last two years. Initially, there were few cases but later the numbers increased rapidly.

In 2020, as many as 131 cases were registered.

Cybercrime mostly includes online fraud, hacking, illegal call centres, fake accounts on social media, nasty comments or posts etc. Cybercrime police have also detected a number of crimes based on technical analysis.

It is to be noted that the complaints related to cybercrimes can now be lodged in any police station. In order to create awareness among the people, the government has also put advertisements.
