Vadodara:Setting an example of humanity and goodness, a family of a 17-year-old girl from Gujarat's Vadodara district donated her organs after her untimely death and gave a second chance at life to five other children.
Vital organs like heart, lungs, both kidneys, both eyes and lever of Teenager girl Nandini, who became brain dead during treatment in Vadodara’s Savita hospital, were donated to save the lives of critically ill persons.
To send her heart to Delhi and lungs to Mumbai the Vadodara traffic police created a green corridor to enable these vital organs transported to the Harni airport from the hospital, a distance of 6.8 km in just 8 minutes. The kidneys, eyes and lever too were sent to the IKD hospital in Ahmedabad through a green corridor.
This is the first instance of its kind when seven vital organs from Vadodara were donated.
Nandini’s mother Krimaben said it was her desire to donate all her organs and had never thought that she would have to donate her daughter's organs.
"It is a matter of pride for me that though my desire to donate my own organs after my death could not be fulfilled, my daughter’s organs could be donated. At the same time, I am sad that my daughter is no more," she said.
This is the first time that the heart and lungs have been donated in Vadodara. The heart has been taken to AIIMS, Delhi and lungs to a private hospital in Mumbai.
