This Gujarat teacher use social media to spread COVID-19 awareness

Bhavnaben Thumar, a psychology professor at Junagadh College, has launched online quizzes on social media intending to help citizens have a proper understanding of coronavirus, which will help in dispelling rumours and misconceptions.

Gujarat:With phones being flooded with misinformation and rumours related to COVID-19, the government is struggling hard to deliver correct information to its citizens to combat the deadly disease.

Here, a teacher from Gujarat's Junagadh district has taken up the task of spreading awareness among countrymen about precautionary measures to be taken against coronavirus.

Instead of enjoying holidays, Bhavnaben Thumar, a psychology professor at Junagadh College is spreading awareness among the children and elderly via social media.

She has launched quizzes on social media intending to help citizens have a proper understanding of coronavirus, which will help in dispelling rumours and misconceptions.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealing people to not heed to rumours surrounding COVID-19, still, most of them are easily falling into the trap of misinformation.

At a time when the country is witnessing world's deadliest virus outbreak, misinformation can create panic among the citizens and hence, people like Thumar are coming forward to help the country cope with the problems that are coming along with the virus.

This Junagadh college professor has made an exemplary effort to make students aware of coronavirus so that they do not fall for rumours and propaganda.

" The awareness campaign on social media in the form of ten quizzes related to coronavirus and steps people can follow to prevent its spread," said Thumar, who is being supported by her husband in this noble initiative.

"The correct answer (indicating in blue) can help them get the correct information and therefore, it can play a vital role in removing misconception from their minds," she said.

"The campaign has received good response. Students as well as general public taking part in the quiz," she concluded.

At a time when many people are not taking the pandemic seriously, this initiative by the psychology professor can help people in consuming correct information.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Gujarat crossed the 3,000-mark on Saturday with 256 more people testing positive for coronavirus, a Health department official said.

On Saturday, the total number of the COVID-19 cases in the state now stood at 3071. With six more persons succumbing to the COVID-19 disease, the death toll has risen to 133, the official said.
