Ahmedabad:Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has declared a campaign 'I too am a corona warrior' to spread awareness about the virus among public.

The Chief Minister launched the week-long campaign through a Facebook live video on May 20.

Addressing the video, CM Rupani said: "Everyone has to unite in fight against this pandemic. In order to make this a people's war I am launching the campaign 'Hu Pan Corona warrior' for the safety of the people of Gujarat."

The campaign from May 21 to May 27 will be followed by implementation of the pledge taken during the 'I too am corona warrior' campaign.

These are the three pledges that CM Rupani has appealed people to follow:

  • Ensure that all elderly persons and children remain indoors.
  • Not to venture out of home without urgent reasons and without wearing mask.
  • Maintain two yard distance.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress spokesman Manish Doshi said: "Ahmedabad is at number three position after Mumbai and Delhi in terms of highest number of coronavirus positive cases. The CM announced the ‘I too am a corona warrior’ campaign instead of ensuring better treatment of the patients. This is only to hide his failure and divert the people’s attention."

"There is no end to the controversy surrounding the ‘swadeshi’ Dhaman-1 ventilator and he announces this type of hollow campaign. When the poor and the middle class are not getting two square meals, the CM instead of helping them is announcing such campaign to divert people attentions, "he added.

With the addition of 363 COVID-19 cases in Gujarat in the last 24 hours, the tally of patients in the state grew to 13,273.

Coronavirus claimed the lives of 29 more people during the same period, which took the death toll to 802 in the state.

A total of 392 people were discharged from different hospitals in the state, due to which the count of recovered persons has reached 5,880.
