Surat: Two eighteen-year-old youths who were declared brain dead saved the lives of 12 people in Surat, courtesy Donate Life, a city-based NGO. After doctors declared two youths brain dead, their parents agreed to the noble gesture. A green corridor was set up by the police to transport the organs late night.
Four kidneys, two livers, one heart, two lungs and four corneas were donated. While the lungs transplantation was done at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital Hyderabad, heart transplantation at Care Institute of Medical Science Hospital, Ahmedabad, livers transplantation at Shalby and Sterling Hospital, Ahmedabad and four corneas were donated to Lok Drashti Chakshu Bank (Eye bank). Transplantation of kidneys will be done at the Institute of Kidney Disease And Research Centre (IKDRC), Ahmedabad.
