Ahmedabad: After fighting the odds for over two decades to treat their daughter, a couple from Gujarat has approached the Gujarat High Court, seeking permission to resort to euthanasia for the 23-year-old.
Gujarat couple seeks euthanasia for 23-yr-old daughter Parents of the 23-year-old woman, who is suffering from cerebral palsy, moved the Gujarat High Court and submitted a writ petition, to end their daughter's 'miserable' life.
The Gujarat High court on March 13 directed the state government and sought a reply in the action and said that it would act accordingly only after the reply from the state.
Cerebral palsy is a neurological condition that adversely affects body movement. The 23-year-old is unable to speak and move her body parts due to the condition.
"Due to her condition, my daughter is unable to complete her daily routine and has to rely on others, which makes her look pitiable," said Manohar Rajgor, the father of the 23-year-old.
"We are alive today, but who will look after her in our absence? Hence, we have moved the High Court requesting euthanasia. We have spent lakhs of rupees for her cure, but nothing is turning our way," he added.
"We cannot see her in such a pathetic condition - her pain is leading us towards mental trauma. My wife is also suffering from depression. Due to her condition, we are unable to have a social life," he further said.
