Age cap will inspire youth to join party: Gujarat BJP

The BJP in Gujarat has said the age limit of 35 years to sign up with the party's youth wing will present more opportunities for the youth to join politics.

Ahmedabad: The BJP in Gujarat has said young members of the party will be given more opportunities to contest in elections in the wake of the age limit being set to be a member of the party's youth wing.

The party's state president CR Patil said, 'the decision was taken to give more chances to youth in the BJP. This will inspire the youth and open up new opportunities in politics.' He said for workers above 35 years of age there is a place in the other wings of the BJP.

Bhavin Topiwala, youth BJP president in Surat, told ETV Bharat, 'no one above 35 years of age is working in the Surat City Youth wing of BJP. We have their identity cards and details and no one is offended at present."

Rajinikanth Patel, Minister of Home Affairs and General Secretary in the state said the youth will be more willing to join the BJP. Earlier, there was no age limit for youth front membership. Now, the decision of age limit has been made to maintain the purpose of youth front.

"Currently, new youth fronts have been formed in Sabarkantha and Aravalli districts in the northern zone. There is nobody above the age of 35. Similarly in remaining Mehsana, Patan and Banaskantha districts also youth front will be formed as per this decision."

Sources said Rajkot BJP youth front president and the general secretary had resigned in May after the decision. Prithviraj Wala, a longtime member of the youth front and General Secretary Hiren Rawal have also resigned from their posts due to age limit. Sources said, there is outrage among party members over their resignations.
