Autorickshaw drivers start auto ambulance in Ahmedabad for Covid patients

The Ahmedabad Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union, jointly with the Panah Foundation, has started an auto ambulance service for corona patients. Ahmedabad is the worst affected city in Gujarat with more than 5000 active Covid-19 cases. Due to the increasing number of covid cases, Gujrat's 108 and 104 medical emergency ambulance services now have a waiting time of 24 to 36 hours.

Ahmedabad:The Ahmedabad Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union, jointly with the Panah Foundation, has started an auto ambulance service for corona patients. Ahmedabad is the worst affected city in Gujarat with more than 5000 active Covid-19 cases. Due to the increasing number of covid cases, Gujrat's 108 and 104 medical emergency ambulance services now have a waiting time of 24 to 36 hours.

The union has also shared a helpline number for the auto ambulance service as a relief to the corona patients. The Auto ambulance service helpline number is 7600660760. At present 10 auto ambulances have been started in Ahmedabad by which corona positive patients are taken to hospital and laboratories for CT-Scan and, X-ray.

Call the nearest auto driver on 7600660760 after registering Covid patients' address. These auto ambulances have a partition to maintain distance between the corona patient passenger and the auto driver.

Panah Foundation’s Mamata Rawat told ETV Bharat that the drivers of auto ambulance have been provided with PPE Kit, hand gloves, mask and sanitiser. The front and the rear sections of the auto has been separated by a partition. Separate water bottles have been provided for the auto driver and the patient.

By chance, if the auto driver catches the infection, the Panah Foundation will bear the responsibility of his treatment. The Foundation also provides gas and petrol to auto drivers.

In addition to the auto ambulance service, the Panah Foundation also delivers medicines and food to corona patients who are in home isolation. For this, the foundation has a ten-member team to serve the home quarantined corona patients.
