Gujarat: Fire dept issues notices to hospitals falling short of fire safety measures

The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services has issued notices to at least 150 hospitals in the city asking them to take appropriate measures to obtain Fire Safety Certificate within a week.

Ahmedabad:The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) issued notices to 150 hospitals in the city, asking them to immediately comply with fire safety norms and apply to get the Fire Safety Certificates within 7 days.

Rajesh Bhatt, the chief fire officer of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) said that actions will be taken against hospitals failing to produce the Fire Safety Certificate.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, he said that notices were issued in the month of November directing hospitals to obtain Fire Safety Certificate still many have not complied with them.

He said that last month six hospitals were sealed for failing to produce Fire Safety Certificate and as many as 150 hospitals have been instructed to obtain a fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) within a week.

"As many as 400 hospitals in Ahmedabad city do not have fire safety certificates. Notices are being sent to these hospitals regarding this and actions will be taken if they fail to produce Fire Safety Certificate within a week," Bhatt added.

Notably, those who already have a Fire NOC from the old fire safety regime will not be required to get the new Fire Safety Certificate until their NOCs expire, confirmed Bhatt.
