Father and son paid 11 lakhs in bills before fatal hospital fire

A father and son, having spent Rs 11 lakh for COVID19 treatment and showing improvement, perished in the fire accident at Shrey hospital at Ahmedabad on Thursday morning. The family of the deceased alleged that the hospital’s negligence was responsible for their deaths.

Ahmedabad: Many coronavirus patients are admitted in several private hospitals in the city for treatment. In the ill-fated Shrey hospital of city’s Navrangpura area too there were many coronavirus patients under treatment. As many as eight of the patients died in the fire that erupted in the ICU ward of the hospital in the wee hours on Thursday.

A father and his son, Navnit Shah and Narendra Shah from Dholka, who were being treated for coronavirus since last ten days, too were among those who died in the fire.

According to their family members, the condition of both father and son was showing improvement before they met their end. The father-son duo had so far paid Rs 11 lakh to the hospital for the treatment. The family of the deceased alleged that the hospital’s negligence was responsible for their death.

The state administration has ordered in an inquiry into the incident. It is to be seen whether the family of the deceased get justice.
