Corpse hanging on tree since 8 months for justice

A corpse was hanged 8 months back by his relatives to seek justice. The cause of his death was claimed as suicide by the police but the relatives suspect murder.

Himmatnagar:A dead body has been hanging on a tree in Sabarkantha's Tadhivedi village since last 8 months.

About 8 months ago, a man's body was found hanging on a tree in this village. Police claimed it as a suicide, but the family says that its a murder and they won't accept the body until the justice is done.

Local police have filed a complaint on the basis of the postmortem report.

The relatives believe that the boy was murdered by a girl's family he was in love with.

The tradition, known as ' chadotaru', is an age-old belief in the tribal belts of Poshina, Khedrahma, Vadali and Vijaynagar.

Under this custom, any unnatural death where foul play is suspected calls for a price to be paid by the accused.

The money is then distributed among the victim's kin and community leaders.
