Ambulances line up outside hospitals in Gujarat

Coronavirus is spreading at a significant pace in Gujarat with over 11,000 new cases of infection reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll due to COVID-19 infections has crossed the 5,000 mark. The condition of hospitals in the state has become pathetic. A long line of ambulances can be seen outside the hospitals everywhere.

Ahmedabad/Jamnagar (Gujarat): COVID-19 pandemic is spreading by leaps and bounds in Gujarat and most hospital beds are fully occupied.

As a result, one can see long lines of ambulance carrying COVID-19 patients outside the hospitals. There is a long waiting list of COVID-19 patients for admission in Ahmedabad’s biggest civil hospital.

Patients are waiting inside the ambulance waiting for their turn to be admitted to the hospital.

According to an estimate, all the 1200 beds of the Ahmedabad civil hospital are occupied. Describing the city’s situation, Ahmedabad civil hospital superintendent Dr J V Modi said as many as 90 percent of the COVID-19 patients in the city are on Oxygen.

Ambulances line up outside hospitals in Ahmedabad

As against the earlier 3 to 5 minutes, the time taken to admit a patient brought in an ambulance now takes one to two hours. Because of this delay, there is a long line of ambulances of the 108 emergency service outside the hospital.

The situation of Jamnagar is similar to Ahmedabad where is a rush of COVID patients in hospitals. According to an estimate, there are 2,000 to 3,000 COVID patients receiving treatment in government and private hospitals.

More patients from Rajkot and Morbi districts are also coming to Jamnagar in an ambulance every three to five minutes. This is why one can see a line of 70 to 80 ambulance vans outside the Jamnagar civil hospital.

On Monday, 400 Corona positive cases had come to Jamnagar. In a WhatsApp video message, Jamnagar collector said the hospital does not have the capacity to admit new patients for the next four days.
