As the state-owned oil marketing companies increased the prices of non-subsidised LPG cylinders to the tune of Rs 149, on Wednesday, the protest, lead by IYC President Srinivas BV, demanded that the government should rollback the LPG price hike.
Youth Congress also accused the Union Government of "electrocuting" the household budgets. "On one hand, there is unemployment in the country and on the other hand the government is increasing the prices of LPG cylinders. It is quite evident that the price hike is a revenge against BJP's crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections," said one of the protestors.
IYC national media in-charge Amrish Ranjan Pandey said that increasing Rs 149 is "unethical".
"The current government has increased the price of LPG. This will directly affect the lower section of the society. This has to be taken back," Pandey said.
Youth Congress also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not fulfilling his promises as in 2013, he gave slogans like "Bahut hui Mahangai ki maar, Abki baar Modi Sarkaar" but in the recent times, the prices of LPG have gone up to the levels of almost the double of the prices in 2013.
