Youth Congress provides relief materials to Tughlakabad slum fire victims

Indian Youth Congress workers along with its President Srinivas BV provided relief materials to victims of Tughlakabad slum fire. A massive fire had broken out in the slums of Delhi's Tughlakabad area on Monday night, in which more than 1000 shanties got burnt and hundreds of people have been rendered homeless.

New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers, on Wednesday, took lead to provide relief materials to victims of Tughlakabad slum fire, in which more than 1000 shanties got burnt and hundreds of people have been rendered homeless.

IYC members along with its President, Srinivas BV, were also present during the relief work at Tughalakad area and got stationed there, aiming to provide food, clean drinking water and other relief material to the local populace.

On Wednesday, the volunteers distributed new clothes to the children and sarees as well as Sanitary pads to the women.

While condemning the announcement made by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of a monetary relief of Rs 25,000 to the sufferers, the Youth Congress also demanded Delhi government to provide homes to the victims who have lost their belongings in this fire.

In his statement, Srinivas BV said, "It is really unfortunate that's such an incident occurred when the people living here are already impoverished and have lost their employment due to unplanned lockdown. They were, in any case, struggling for their survival."

He further added, "More ironic is the fact that even after all this, the Delhi government has remained indifferent to these people and any proper relief measure has not been provided to them."

He also said that an announcement of a compensation of Rs 25,000 for these people, is like giving them nothing.

"It is important that we become their voice and hence we demand the government to give better monetary compensation to the victims along with a Pucca house to each family," he said.

It is to be noted that a massive fire broke out in the slums of South-East Delhi's Tughlakabad area on Monday night. The fire was controlled at around 3:40 am. IYC teams are continuously being on the site, ensuring measures of livelihoods to local citizenry.
