New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers, on Wednesday, took lead to provide relief materials to victims of Tughlakabad slum fire, in which more than 1000 shanties got burnt and hundreds of people have been rendered homeless.
IYC members along with its President, Srinivas BV, were also present during the relief work at Tughalakad area and got stationed there, aiming to provide food, clean drinking water and other relief material to the local populace.
On Wednesday, the volunteers distributed new clothes to the children and sarees as well as Sanitary pads to the women.
While condemning the announcement made by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal of a monetary relief of Rs 25,000 to the sufferers, the Youth Congress also demanded Delhi government to provide homes to the victims who have lost their belongings in this fire.
In his statement, Srinivas BV said, "It is really unfortunate that's such an incident occurred when the people living here are already impoverished and have lost their employment due to unplanned lockdown. They were, in any case, struggling for their survival."
