New Delhi:For the first time, six out of 15 police districts in New Delhi will be headed by Women Deputy Commissioners of Police. While three woman IPS have also been deployed in the Special Cell for the first time.

This comes after Delhi Police Commissioner, Rakesh Asthana made a major reshuffle transferring 11 senior IPS officers of DCP rank to bring more transparency and accountability in the system on September 25.

On Saturday, the three women IPS officers of the 2010 batch who have been given chance to lead the district include South District DCP Benita Marie, Central District DCP Shweta Chauhan and South-East District DCP Isha Pandey.

Earlier, former Delhi commissioner SN Srivastava had selected three women DCPs to head the respective districts in the capital, which includes Western District DCP Urvija Goyal, North-West District DCP Usha Rangnani and Eastern District DCP Priyanka Kashyap.

It is said that Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana wants to give importance to women officers. During his meeting, he had also decided to appoint women SHO, following which he had given the charge of a police station to a female officer.

The three women officer who will command Special Cell are IPS Jasmeet Singh, 2009 batch, IPS Pointed Pratap Singh, 2011 batch and IPS Rajeev Ranjan of 2010 batch.
