Shocking medical apathy: Turned away by four hospitals, woman dies in New Delhi

A woman died on Sunday after she was refused treatment by four hospitals in Delhi. The deceased was suffering from acute respiratory problems. The woman breathed her last at the Hindu Rao Hospital in the national capital.

New Delhi: A 40-year-old woman died due to acute respiratory problems after being shuttling between four hospital in the city on Sunday.

The woman, a resident of Mori Gate area was moved between Kukreja hospital, Max hospital and a government hospital, before being taken to Hindu Rao Hospital where she breathed her last hours after being admitted.

The family members of the deceased claim that all private and government hospitals refused to admit her.

" She was having difficulty in breathing and I was moving between various government and private hospitals just to get her admitted. Her health started deteriorating at 4 in the morning and since then, I was in search of a hospital that allows her to admit," said KS Rajan, husband of the deceased.

The family members alleged that the woman would be alive if any hospital had given her timely treatment.

The victim's husband also said that the hospitals were asking them to get her tested for COVID-19, as shortness of breath is among one of the symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

It was the second consecutive day when the number of reported cases breached the 2,000-mark. On Friday, Delhi had witnessed 2,137 cases, the highest single-day spike here.

As many as 57 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll from coronavirus now stands at 1,271 and the total number of cases at 38,958, according to the latest Delhi health department bulletin.
