New Delhi: Opposing the move by the Congress to name Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath as star campaigner the Shiromani Akali Dal said on Wednesday that the Congress was "rewarding the perpetrators of genocide against the Sikhs."

"The Congress promotes and rewards the perpetrators of genocide against the Sikhs by proposing the name of Kamal Nath as a star campaigner, " said Akali Dal MLA and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DGMC) President Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

" Congress has chosen Kamal Nath as one of the star campaigners of Delhi in the list and by doing this they have proven that they are against Sikhs and are supporting murderers in their party. "

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader further said, " We will not let Kamal Nath speak on stage, if you (Kamal Nath) have guts then go ahead, but we won't let him speak during the campaign."

Referring to the 1984 Sikh Riot, in which Sirsa alleged that Kamal Nath led a mob against the Sikhs in the Raqab Ganj gurdwara area in which young innocent boys were beaten to death while he stood there, he said, "Just like Congress has declared their list of campaigners, I also announce that if we see Kamal Nath on the stage, we will drag him down holding his collar"

Congress' star campaigners list for Delhi

Earlier today, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former party chief Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are among the party's list of 40-star campaigners for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls.

Interestingly, former Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath are also among the top campaigners for the polls.

Earlier, Kamal Nath was removed as the Congress in-charge for Punjab in 2016 following objections from Congress leaders in the Sikh-majority state.
