Social campaigns necessary to save the environment- Jal Shakti Minister Shekhawat

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Jal Shakti Minister participated in a programme organised by National Mission for Clean Ganga on the occasion of the 'World Environment Day' on Wednesday. He distributed awards to school children and spoke about the necessity of social campaigns in the conservation of the environment.

New Delhi:After assuming charge, Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat who inaugurated the 'World Environment Day' programme organised by National Mission for Clean Ganga claimed that a clean Ganga can only be attained through social awareness campaigns.

Talking to press immediately after the end of the event, Gajendra Shekhawat said, "awareness for the environment has been created since the beginning. In due course with the new world and new lifestyle, this gradually disappeared from society. It has resulted in bad consequences due to which our country's water is the most polluted in the world."

He also emphasised the need of the hour and said, "This matter shouldn't only remain a matter of concern for us rather it should become a matter of contemplation for us."

Union Minister was accompanied by his MoS Rattan Lal Kataria for the event. Apart from distributing awards to school kids who won the prizes under the Namami Gange, a total of 22 projects at a cost of Rs. 3789.71 crore have been sanctioned in West Bengal to create 864.67 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant.
