Trafficked infant rescued in Delhi, was sold four times

In a joint operation, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and the police raided several spots and rescued a two-month-old baby who was sold by her own father and subsequently trafficked three more times. The police also arrested five persons in connection with trafficking.

New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women along with the police on Thursday rescued a two-month-old infant, who had been sold by her own father and trafficked multiple times.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the DCW informed the Burari Police, following which they jointly raided several locations to trace the baby.

The police also arrested five persons in connection with trafficking.

"We got information that a 2.5-month-old baby had gone missing. We came to know that her own father had sold her for Rs 40,000 as he already had two daughters. We informed the police and carried out the operation all through the night," DCW chief Swati Maliwal said.

According to the investigation, the baby's father and the first trafficker had made a deal of Rs 1 lakh initially, but eventually, she was sold for Rs 40,000.

Subsequently, the baby was sold three more times, meaning the infant changed hands a total of four times. Initially, the police arrested three traffickers, and through them nabbed the other two.

The rescued baby was then handed over to her mother.

Meanwhile, the police are currently questioning the five arrested persons and carrying out further investigation into the trafficking.
