New Delhi:Three persons drowned in Yamuna river in two separate incidents in Delhi's Wazirabad on Sunday.

In the first incident, a 40-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Nisar drowned after he accidentally slipped and fell into the river.

The man was traced and rescued by the fire brigade personnel who rushed to the spot and carried out a search operation. Though he was immediately admitted to a hospital, he was declared “dead” by the doctors, sources said.

In a similar incident, two youths drowned while taking bath in Yamuna river near Jagatpur in this afternoon today. The identities of the deceased youths are yet to be ascertained.

According to sources, the incident occurred when the duo was taking bath in the river this afternoon. They had reportedly ventured deep into the water and were swept away by the strong currents.

Following this, locals sought the help of the fire service personnel and some of them jumped into the river to rescue the youths but failed to trace them.

On being informed, the police and fire service personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation to trace out the missing youths. Later, one persons' lifeless body was retrieved from the river but another's body yet to be traced, sources added.
