CAB effect: Pakistani Hindu couple names their daughter as 'NAGRIKTA'

The Citizenship Amendment Bill was approved by the Rajya Sabha and with this, a wave of happiness ran in the settlement of Pakistani Hindu refugees that a girl born four days ago was named as Nagrikta.

New Delhi: There is a settlement of Pakistani Hindu refugees near Majnu Ka Tila in the national capital. Hundreds of Pakistani Hindus have been living here for the past 5-7 years.

When Ishwar came to India, he had a dream that he would remain here forever but was obstructed by the citizenship of India.

But, now as the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) passed in the parliament, not only Ishwar but also the other Pakistani Hindus in refugee camps here are celebrating.

A couple from Pakistan, Ishwar and Aarti have been living here for the past 7 years. He came to India with his mother Meeraji and the whole family with a dream of getting citizenship of India. Now, as all their hurdles to get Indian citizenship came to end with CAB passing in parliament, a jubilant Ishwar named his new-born girl child as Nagrikta (Citizenship).

In a conversation with ETV Bharat, Aarti said, "What was greater than this that our daughter has brought citizenship to us and that is why we have named her Nagrikta."

Similarly, a 9-year-old Sridevi was seen decorating herself. Her family members told that she came to India when she was 2-year-old and today the joy of being officially called as an Indian can be seen on the face of Sridevi.

Today is the day of independence for thousands of people living in the settlement of Pakistani Hindu refugee camps and they are all celebrating it with pomp.
