New Delhi:Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, on Sunday, expressed her wish of not continuing with the responsibility of party President, while asking Congress leaders to 'get together and find a new chief' who can lead the party.

Gandhi made this statement in response to a letter written to her by a group of party leaders, demanding a complete overhaul of the organization. However, a final call will be taken at a Congress Working Committee meeting, which is going to be held on Monday.

When asked, Congress Chief Spokesperson, Randeep Singh Surjewala said that no official statement is being made by Sonia Gandhi regarding a change in party leadership.

Sonia Gandhi took up the charge of party chief due to much persuasion by the party leaders after Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post. She took the charge once again on a condition that a new chief will be appointed soon, said a party source.

During his resignation, Rahul Gandhi had told the CWC that the party should elect a non-Gandhi as it's chief. In an interview, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had also backed Rahul's viewpoint and suggested that Congress should 'find its own path'.

Though, a number of Congress leaders are still reluctant to find a new name for party chief and insisting Sonia Gandhi either to continue her responsibility as Party Chief or reappoint Rahul Gandhi on the post. This proves that there is still uncertainty over the acceptance of Sonia Gandhi's resignation in tomorrow's meeting.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has even written a letter to Rahul Gandhi expressing his support to Sonia Gandhi's leadership. He stated, "The troubled times our country is going through only your guidance will get rid of those troubles."

While Punjab CM Capt Amrinder Singh has opposed the bid by a group of Congress leaders challenging the party leadership saying that this is not the right time to raise such issue, given the need of strong opposition against NDA government.

Former Union Minister, Ashwini Kumar has also tweeted over the matter, saying, "It is wrong to question the unifying leadership at this stage. I am of the view that under the present extraordinary circumstances political adventurism cannot be the way forward. Considering the extraordinary situation in the country, the need of the hour is to close ranks."

Some leaders are also having a view that if a non-Gandhi will be appointed as Congress chief, it might be possible that the party gets divided among itself. A number of Congressmen are still having a view that the party should be lead by Nehru-Gandhi family.

According to the sources, Congress is also mulling over the appointment of two vice-presidents. Along with this, an organizational reshuffle is also being on cards in which new faces can be brought up for some key posts within the Congress party.
