Sisodia writes to L-G, wants Delhi to revert to home assessment system

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia wrote a letter to L-G Anil Baijal, requesting that Delhi revert to the old home isolation system where government teams visit the house of the COVID-19 infected person for the clinical assessment. Presently, those under home isolation are required to visit the government quarantine centres for clinical assessment.

New Delhi:Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said he has written a letter to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, asking him to scrap the system requiring every COVID-19 patient to visit a government-run centre for clinical assessment.

Addressing a press conference, Sisodia said he has written to Baijal, saying that the new system will only add pressure on the government machinery.

"Lieutenant Governor's order mandates COVID-19 positive patients to visit the quarantine centres for clinical assessment. This has created problems for people. In that context, I have written to him requesting to withdraw it," Sisodia said.

The deputy chief minister demanded that the previous system should be implemented wherein teams of the district administration visit the house of an infected person for his or her clinical assessment.

"Delhi is witnessing at least 3,000 cases every day, so if these infected people step out, it will further increase the risk of the infection," he added.

Sisodia further claimed that the new procedure was putting immense pressure on the city's ambulance system. Hence, he requested Baijal to call a meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to take a call on scrap the new system.

This comes after Baijal had scrapped an order mandating five-days institutional quarantine for COVID-19 patients, but said that every person who tests positive should be taken to Covid care centres for assessment of their clinical conditions.
