Shaheen Bagh shooter Kapil had joined AAP in 2019: Delhi Police

New Delhi: In a big revelation, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police claimed to have found certain pictures on the cell phone of Shaheen Bagh shooter Kapil Baisala, which show him joining the Aam Aadmi Party in 2019. 

Baisala and his father joined the AAP in early 2019, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Rajesh Deo said.

The officer said Baisala's mobile phone has been seized and police have retrieved WhatsApp data and photos of him and his father joining the Aam Aadmi Party.

"In our initial investigation we found some photos from Kapil's phone that establish that he and his father joined AAP a year ago. He also confessed it. We have taken his two days remand," eo said.

The police also released photographs of Baisala along with AAP leaders and volunteers.

Baisala's family refutes police claim

Refuting the police's claim, Kapil Baisala's uncle Fatesh Singh told a news agency, "I have no idea where these photographs are circulating from. My nephew Kapil had no association with any political party nor does any other member from the family is."

"My brother Gaje Singh, (Kapil's father) fought assembly elections in 2008 for Bahujan Samaj Party and lost. After that no one from our family had any links with any political party," he added.

Singh added that Kapil also doesn't have any friends associated with the AAP or any other political party. 

'Country bigger than any election,' BJP hits out at Kejriwal

Hitting out at the AAP, BJP president J P Nadda accused Kejriwal of playing with the security of the country and said that people will give the AAP a befitting reply.

"I want to make clear to Kejriwal that this country is bigger than any election, any government, and the country will not forgive those who play with its security. The people of Delhi will give a befitting reply," Nadda tweeted.

AAP accuses BJP of 'dirty politics'

Responding to the development, AAP MP Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of "dirty politics."

"Amit Shah is the Home Minister of the country at this time, now just before elections, photos and conspiracies will be found. There are 3-4 days left for the elections, BJP will do as much dirty politics as they can. What does having a picture with someone mean?" he said.

Earlier on February 1, Kapil had fired two rounds in the air at Shaheen Bagh, where anti-CAA protests are being held for over a month now.

After being overpowered by police personnel, Kapil was taken into custody by the Delhi police.
