SEC Nimmagadda case: Caveat petition filed in SC on Andhra High Court verdict

A caveat petition was filed by Advocate Narra Srinivas Rao in the Supreme Court requesting not to give stay on the judgement of Andhra Pradesh High Court reinstating State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.

New Delhi: A caveat petition was filed in the Supreme Court on the Andhra Pradesh High Court verdict over Nimmagadda case

The petition was filed by Advocate Narra Srinivas Rao requesting not to give stay on the judgement of the High Court reinstating State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.

Kumar, an IAS officer, had strained relations with the Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who had personally met the governor to complain against him on March 14 hours after the State Election Commission (SEC) postponed the elections to rural and urban local bodies were scheduled on March 21 and 23 respectively.

Ramesh Kumar cited precautionary measures required to check the spread of coronavirus for postponing the polls.

This had triggered an angry reaction from YSR Congress Party government, which accused him of acting at the behest of opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

A caveat petition is a precautionary measure taken by people when they are having a very strong apprehension that a case is going to be filed in the court regarding their interest in any manner.
