New Delhi:The Supreme court today has stayed the Meghalaya High court's order against The Shillong Times editor Patricia Mukhim and her publisher Shobha Chaudhuri.
The High court earlier had found both of them guilty of contempt.
The apex court has issued a notice to the Registrar General of the HC.
The matter was regarding the publication of articles on the perks and facilities provided to retired judges and their family.
A bench of the Meghalaya HC consisting of Chief Justice MY Mir and Justice SR Sen found these two articles published in The Shillong Times offensive and held the newspaper liable for contempt of court.
Subsequently, the HC ordered Mukhim and Chaudhuri to sit in a corner of the courtroom as punishment till the judges rose for the day.
It also awarded them a fine of worth Rs 2 lakh each. The court also said that if they fail to deposit the fine within six months, it would ban the newspaper.
